Painting a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon in Front of a Crowd

Oil Painting Portrait of Quiggley, a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon.  What I love about painting WPGs is their almost human eyes!

And something really fun about painting Quiggley was that I worked on him while selling my vintage at the Golden Nugget Antique Flea in Lambertville, NJ. The "Nugget" is just up the road from Washington's Crossing Park, just across the Delaware River from Pennsylvania.  As I've mentioned previously in this blog, I'm getting busy enough to focus solely on my art, and am giving up the vintage.  But on this day, I combined the two, got a lot done, met lots of cool dog lovers and artists, and even a new commission!

It was a little scary, I was really nervous.  My french easel was so unused, I couldn't find a part (but my resourceful husband found mega big clips to substitute) and once I got started, a crowd began to gather.  I stopped to chat, and paint and give out cards, it was the most fun I've ever had at a flea!  Nobody came to tell me I stunk (is that what I was nervous about????) and I actually got a lot done.

The painting ended when it got hot, though, because my medium got thicker and more sluggish...and so did I!  I am going to paint in public more, it was soooooo much fun.  I will try the Golden Nugget again, it's between New York and Philadelphia, and it's really a neat little, quality flea AND art market.  I'm not the only one selling art there!

This is an amazing portrait. You have captured his expression beautifully. As an owner of a Griff I can easily see his personality in here. Nice job!
